Criminal defense attorney and former Florida Bar president Michelle Suskauer recently appeared on WJCT’s First Coast Connect to discuss how Florida’s criminal justice system is undergoing sweeping change.
During the interview, Suskauer addressed a wide range of emerging issues, including due process concerns for immigrants, First Amendment disputes in schools, Florida’s record-setting pace of executions, and the growing use of artificial intelligence and digital evidence in criminal cases without clear legal safeguards.
Drawing on her experience as the first former public defender to serve as president of The Florida Bar, as well as her work in private practice, Suskauer explained how these developments are reshaping how cases are prosecuted and how constitutional protections are applied in real courtrooms.
She emphasized that while technology and policy changes continue to evolve rapidly, the justice system must remain focused on fairness, transparency, and protecting individual rights as new tools and laws are introduced.
