Criminal defense attorney and former Florida Bar president Michelle Suskauer was recently featured on NPR following her appearance on WJCT’s First Coast Connect, where she discussed the major changes reshaping Florida’s criminal justice system.
During the interview, Suskauer addressed a range of critical issues affecting both legal professionals and everyday residents, including due process concerns for immigrants, First Amendment challenges in schools, Florida’s record pace of executions, and the expanding use of artificial intelligence and digital evidence in criminal cases without clear safeguards.
Drawing on her experience as the first former public defender to serve as president of The Florida Bar, as well as her work in private practice, Suskauer explained how these developments are altering how cases are prosecuted and how constitutional protections are applied in real courtrooms.
She emphasized that while laws and technology continue to evolve rapidly, the justice system must remain grounded in fairness, transparency, and the protection of individual rights.
